What does this mean? No more new patches-fix functional or security related issues. All New hardware will have a problem with compatibility issues with XP and new drivers for new software. What is the new Operating system? Windows 7 or Windows 8? Windows 7 has a solid track record, Available to users in the last 4 years. Great support with vendors, software and hardware. Windows 8 is available from October 2012.

Windows 8 was released on October 2012. Although reaction towards its performance improvements, security enhancements, and improved support for touch screen devices was positive, the new user interface of the operating system has been widely criticized for being potentially confusing and having a steep learning curve.
Small organization are more risky and move to SaaS and Windows 8, the larger SMB and Enterprise stick with Windows 7.

The right direction depends on the size of the organization, the amount of users, the vertical market, the applications and programs that they are using.
